K-STATE SALINA STUDENT LIFE CENTER
Kansas State University - Salina, Kansas
34,000 Square Feet
Phase One of the Student Life Center Master Plan is a freestanding recreation facility prominently located near the campus entrance. The center provides a gymnasium, 1/8-mile elevated running track, racquetball court, weight and cardio area, lounge, locker rooms and administrative offices.
Students, faculty and community members will utilize the facility. In addition to student sports, the gymnasium will also be used as a multipurpose space for functions such as intramurals, organized sports tournaments, large group hi-tech gaming and graduation ceremonies.
Provisions for a second racquetball court and gymnasium, expanded locker rooms, aerobics room and classroom additions to the building have been master planned.
Site improvements include service and fire-apparatus access drive, walks, storm water management and site lighting. Future improvements will include a large retention pond and elevated enclosed concourse linking the recreation center to the Phase 2 expansion of the current Student Campus Center.
The building provides a strong visual connection to the campus, both inward and outward, through the liberal use of glass. The design utilizes the established campus materials palette of blue glass, aluminum on white cementitious panels.
